Doubling between Moturu and Akividu Railway stations Commissioned


South Central Railway Commissioned doubling between Moturu and Akividu Railway stations in Gudivada-Bhimavaram Section of Vijayawada Division on 12th August, 2019. Double line of the section is commissioned with running of Train no.17231 Narasapur - Nagarsol Express on newly constructed Double line.

With a vision to provide impetus to the development potential of coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh, Indian Railways took up the Doubling and Electrification Project between Vijayawada - Gudivada - Bhimavaram - Narasapur, Gudivada - Machilipatnam and Bhimavaram - Nidadavolu sections in the year 2011-12 for a distance of 221 kms.

Salient features of this project are:
  • Actual Cost of entire project is Rs.1501 Cr.
  • 50% cost sharing by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. is executing the project.
  • Project targeted for completion by 2020-21.
The entire project is planned to execute in 5 phases,
  • Phase-1: Vijayawada – Moturu - 51.5 KM
  • Phase-2: Moturu-Bhimavaram Town - 53.5 KM
  • Phase-3: Bhimavaram Town-Nidadavolu - 49.75 KM
  • Phase-4: Gudivada-Machilipatnam - 36.74 KM
  • Bhimavaram-Narasapur - 29.48 KM
Details of work executed in Phase-2:

The works in Phase-2 i.e., Moturu-Bhimavaram Town were commenced in 2013. Doubling between Moturu and Akividu Railway stations is completed covering a stretch of 40 KM with 11.5 Lakh cubic meter of Earthwork, 4 Major Bridges and 131 Minor Bridges in the section. Construction of New Station Buildings, Yard Remodelling, Circuit provision and Indoor works at Moturu, Mandavali, Kaikalur and Akividu (All crossing stations) are completed and 23 Level Crossing Gates (8 – Inter Locked: 15 – Non-Inter Locked) have been extended for the New Double Line in the section. The completed stretch was certified by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) in March, 2019. Remaining stretch of work in Phase-2: between Akividu and Bhimavaram Town is currently in progress and will be completed by November, 2019.
